Counselling can be referred to as talking therapy. There are different types of counselling and each counsellor will have their way of working. Essentially counselling provides a safe place for people to talk about issues or feelings that might come up for them. It is an opportunity to talk things through in a non-judgemental environment where they can start to make sense of any thoughts or feelings arise for them. Counsellors aren't able to give you advice or answers. They can though enable you to gain an understanding of your situation, or feelings.
People often come to counselling/therapy when they wish to change something about their lives. Talking things through people can help people find solutions or coping strategies to life situations. This can support and empower them to move forward with their lives and creating positive changes.
